a crash on cottage park drive at snapdragon way in hayward. wore joined now from the scene to explain what caused the crash and the condition of the officer in the car. >>reporter: we want to show you here the live picture of the police car that ran into a house here on cottage park drive in a small side street of whitman here in hayward. we want to bring in officer daniel jackwitz, who's going to tell us what happened. how did this vehicle start being chased to begin with? >> we attempted to make an enforcement stop on a high- speed vehicle. the vehicle did not yield, and he proceeded on 580 exiting foothill boulevard in the city

of hayward. the pursuit continued through surface streets here and ended up in this residential neighborhood, at which time the suspect rammed the officer's patrol vehicle, causing the officer to collide with a porch of a residence here in the neighborhood. no one was injured at the residence. the porch structure was damaged. the officer did receive minor damage to his forehead. the suspect took foot -- fled the scene on foot. >> i heard that you found a loaded gun in the car after this chase. what happened to the suspect? you caught him nearby? >> yes, after the suspect fled the scene on foot we did apprehend the suspect with the help of the hayward police department, at which time we located a loaded firearm in his vehicle and also have confirmed that the suspect has one or more outstanding warrants for his arrest, and we're still

investigating as far as what's going on. >>reporter: that's officer jackwitz from the chp. just to sum it up, you see the patrol car badly damaged. the officer was taken to the hospital with minor head injuries. the officers are doing an extensive investigation, but the good news is the officer did not sustain major injuries, and one suspect is now in custody. live in hayward, ktvu channel 2 news. just within the past half- hour, barry bonds' trainer said no. once again greg anderson will not testify against bonds, and he is being taken to jail right now. this was not a surprise but still a big deal in the case. >>reporter: that's right. not a surprise because the attorneys and judge knew it was going to happen. barry bonds is on trial because he's accused of lying to a grand jury about taking steroids during his baseball

career. the man who was arrested just a half hour ago, we've got video of him walking to the courthouse before his arrest, is greg anderson. he's bond's personal trainer and childhood friend accused of giving bonds steroids, but today he was sum mon had to testify, however refused. he was arrested on the spot for contempt of court. the jury didn't see any of this happen because they were on their lunch break, but bonds did see it happen because he's been in the courtroom all morning. bonds arrived inside the federal building this morning, and he was in the courtroom for opening statements. federal prosecutors laid out their case first t they told the jury during the course of this trial they'd hear from a number of people, including bonds' ex girlfriend and former personal assistant, and that those close associates would testify that they either saw bonds receiving injections or noticed his body changing. legal experts and sports analysts say that testimony is a essential part of the government's case. >> a lot of the testimony is

testimony and indictment. just click on the tab at the top of the web page. heavy antiaircraft fire and loud explosions heard in triopoly. this is the fourth night of fighting in the libyan capitol. u.s. and european forces of libya say they've reduced colonel khadafy's air defense by 50%. international strikes destroyed a seaport and four trucks loaded with rocket launchers and also hit warehouses containing other military equipment. the campaign to enforce the no- fly zone must continue, some say, until khadafy stops attacking his own people. the crash of an american fighter jet was the first major loss for the u.s. and international forces, plummeting to the ground in the eastern side of the country. military officials say it crashed due to a mechanical problem and was not shot down. the two crew members ejected safely and are in american

hands. in japan the operator of the crippled nuclear complex says that power lines are now connected to all six reactors. the utility company hopes to power a cooling system to the plant's overheated reactors. workers are still checking water pumps for damage and hope to power them up as someone as tomorrow, but they warn the process could take days. emergency crews also dump had a teen tons of seawater into an almost boiling storage pond and cooled it to a safe 105 degrees. many are mourning the death of their loved ones. relatives held a mass burial for hundreds of victims who died in the earthquake and tsunami. the official death count has topped 9,000, but authorities say almost 14,000 people are still missing. japanese officials say after shock are becoming less frequent, but are urging people

to be on the alert. there have been more than 60 strong after shock since the initial quake on march 11, including three with a magnitude of 6.4 or higher just today. they were all centered off the coast there. u.s. military families evacuated from japan, arriving at travis air force base near fairfield. we have the report on a decision to come home. >>reporter: the plane carrying the family members of those serveing in japan arrived this morning after a long flight. for some it was only the first leg of the trip. >> i'm headed to dallas to spend a week or so with my in laws. >> i'm going to live with my parents until i go back. >>reporter: when they go back is up to them, just like the decision to leave japan. >> the military is providing assistance and they're taking advantage of that to get to where they know they're safe.

>>reporter: voluntary evacuations was approved to assist and expedite the recovery process. efforts are being slowed by electricity, fuel and clean drinking water, and by leaving the families aren't competing for resources. the families felt a little tired, but now that they're back in the united states, they feel a lot safer as well. >> i have a week and a half old and didn't want to take a chance. we think it was the best choice to be able to give people that we love peace of mind and some for ourselves as well. >>reporter: the military is helping to provide transportation for the next leg of the trip, a trip someone would not have made except for

crumbling hillside which has trapped some people in a scots valley neighborhood. a landslide on nelson road near sky meadow lane is blocking the only way in and out. officials say about 50 neighbors spread out between 26 homes are blocked from leaving. >> we're trying to make contact. throughout the day we'll have a crew come out and go in and actually contact them door to door and make sure they have what they need, make sure they have power and make sure a lot of people are on wells have electricity so they have water. >> geologists say they hope to determine the safety of removing the rocks and mud without causing another slide. just ahead, we'll update what's going on in two other trials link had to high profile cases. an unusual protest. we'll tell you why these people took their clothes off. as we mentioned, more rain only hours away, and we'll have the forecast coming up and tell

they're taking off their clothes to protest the treatment of the whistle-blower manning. he said he's forced to stand nude in prison at times, and they're showing support for manning and claim his rights are being violated when he's not been convicted of a crime. we have developing news. a power outage is affecting bart services. they say about 11:50 this morning power went out to at least 27,000 customers in downtown berkley, but so far don't know what caused the outage. it's also causing a 10 minute delay on the richmond line in the freemont direction. a power pole was knocked out by a traffic accident this morning just before 8 a.m.

on central street and brookside drive north of richmond. authorities say a big rig lost control and slammed into the pole before it slid into a drainage ditch. more than 100 customers initially lost power, but service has been restored to all but 18. those customers should have it back by this evening. no reports of injuries from that crash. this morning the community college in san pablo reopened five days after a power outage forced the school to cancel classes. at first the school thought it was a electric problem, but it was determined that equipment belonging to the college was broken. official eds say they don't know how much the repairs will cost. the bailey murder trial is underway for a second day in oakland. yesterday in opening statements the prosecutor told jurors that he ordered the murder in 2007 because the oakland post editor was about to publish an article

describing the bakery's serious financial troubles. the handyman for the bakery said he was ordered to kill bailey. he agreed to testify against in exchange for a 25 year sentence. the trial is expected to last at least three months. closing arguments are underway in the trial of a poker player accused of killing his parents two years ago. the 32-year-old is accused of beating and stabbing his parents. the trial has lasted more than three months. prosecutors say he was in grave financial shape and motivated by a 1 million-dollar inheritance. his attorney says the prosecution has not proven anything. closing arguments are expected to wrap up today. a new poll shows about half of california voters approve of the job governor brown is  doing. it comes as brown continues negotiating with the legislature to close a $26.6

billion budget deficit. 48% of voters say they approve of the job governor brown is doing, 21% disapprove and 31% have no opinion. the governor does very well with democrats and in particular bay area voters. in the meantime governor brown and democratic legislative lead are say they're still optimistic about budget negotiations, even though they admit they've made little progress in closing the shortfall. the governor is continuing to push for a special election on tax extension. all roads headed into yosemite national park remain shut down this noontime. the national park service says highway 41, 120 and 140 are temporarily closed and off- limits because of the unsafe conditions. there's snow, ice, mud slides,

downed power lines and fallen trees on the roads leading into the park. since sunday 3.5 feet of snow has fallen in the park, and no word on when the roads will reopen. it still looks and feels like winter in other parts of the sierra, a lot of snow for skiers and snowboarders at the resort at the summit. they've received 18 inches in the last 24 hours. sugar bowl received 7 feet in the last week. a look at mount hamilton where the sun is slowly disappearing. we saw some snow all the way down to about 2500 feet in some cases resentsly, and you can see snowcapped mountains around our area. taking a look at the stormtracker, some of us dealing with partly sunny skies. already seeing light rain rolling over the peninsula. san francisco the airport

reporting light rain. as we roll through the afternoon, it's only going to increase this as the storm approaches the coast. taking a look to the north of us we could be seeing a little bit of light rain over santa rosa. temperatures holding onto the upper 40s, mid-50s, and we're seeing low and mid-50s around the san francisco area and oakland area as well. your satellite and radar view, this is the next storm already approaching the coast. by tonight even in time for the evening drive we're looking at light rain only to see the heavier rain through the evening hours and overnight. so by about 4:00 or so notice light sprinkles in store. some of the heaviest rain falling in the overnight hours. we're okay with that, right? but tomorrow morning we're still foggy in time for the morning drive. what can we expect for the week ahead? this next storm is going to bring us the heaviest rain wednesday through thursday, and a total of 1-3 inches. we could see a little bit of

one, which is not yet on sale in canada. people are lining up as early as 4 this morning. a new report says a united airlines flight headed for san francisco last may was allowed to take off without repairs despite a report of problems. the pilot said they heard a hissing noise and saw 14-inch flames coming from the cockpit window. the crew was able to put out the flames and make an emergency landing in washington d.c. the captain who flew the same plane earlier reported an overheated electrical connection. they said it was inspected and thought to be flight worthy. thousands of nasa workers marked the space shuttle's 30th anniversary by forming a human shuttle, taking more than an hour to fill up the space. it was a fair well to the shuttle program as it wrapped up. still ahead, the reason behind a spectacular sight on the ocean front in southern

hydrant sheared off about 7:30 this morning, and a plume of water shooting 50 to 60 feet in the air. it caused a temporary closure of eastbound lanes. it was backed up for about 3 miles in each direction. the royal wedding is just about a month away. guaranteed to be riding in style. they announced a 109-year-old horse drawn carriage has been set aside for the couple. after the wedding it will carry them from westminster to buckingham palace. lindsay lohan's father was arrested, accused of holding his girlfriend against her will during an argument and preventing her from calling the police. he will be booked when he's released because he complained
